WWI Dogfight by Hydrothrax WWI Dogfight by Hydrothrax

WWI aerosaurs: Albatros D.Va, Airco DH.4 and a SPAD X.III

Yet another one of those things that sat nearly-finished in my WIP folder for WAY TOO LONG

Aerosaur dogfight! Something that I should have done a long time ago but finally here we’ve got one. The WWI-era fights would have been quite intense, considering how close-quarters those aerial fights happened in reality! (If I were to draw a dogfight with more modern aerosaurs, it’d probably look a lot less exciting. Ranged weaponry exists for a reason, and in this alt timeline, that sort of fighting tends to die out in WWII. Since. Y’know. Pew pew pew. (Guns would have been the main weapon of these ‘saurs too honestly, I just think the idea of giant warplane monsters locked in claw-to-claw combat is badass. Ridiculous but badass. :P)

PS I have no hate for any of the planes I’m drawing getting shot down, I love all these :D I just wanted to get a bit of a mix. Not necessarily the most obscure planes of that war (the Albatros and SPAD were plentiful and quite successful,) but I didn’t want to go with the “Red Baron” triplane cliche because damn that gets old.

Drawn in Autodesk Sketchbook [2/3]

These were TRUE Dogfighters and were more creatures of the skies rather than simple machines.

And I find it kind of funny that I've gotten the same answer from and pilot when I ask them whether if a F-22 or a WWI fighter plane would win in a dogfight and they said that the WWI fighter plane would win hands down because of it extremely tight turn radius. Alth they did say that it would lose in both the speed, bvr, firepower, and Altitude to the more modern fighter jets.

A few of my favorite fighter planes of WW1 were the Albatros', Fokker Dr.1 (mainly because of Werner Voss' awesome maneuvers), the Spad 13, and the British SE5a with their wing mount Lewis machine gun.

Here's a question...what happens with damaged aerosaurs?

These biomechs have a limited degree of self-regeneration, but they can die if damaged beyond repair. Materials can be re-used. Cold, but that's how it is especially for the military sort!
